Layout Details

Design and construction was described in some detail in the Layout Design Journal #29, January 2004. The trackplan was inspired by a number of prototype locations, but combines different elements in a proto-freelance concept. A number of on-hand track components were used and benchwork is "waffle"-style built from 1/4" plywood.

The layout is operated with a series of three interlocking switchlists. Since the lighting in the garage (where the layout is housed) is not yet too bright, enough different roadnames and color combinations of rolling stock are used so that reading car numbers is not necessary.
