Operational Paperwork:

The Port of Long Beach Subdivision - HO - Mark Lestico **

The Operating arrangement consists of two 2 man crews. One acts as the Conductor and the other as the locomotive Engineer. They work as a team to accomplish the assigned Tasks. There are three Operational aids given in paper form. Crew Instructions, Switch Lists and an operating map. Here are some examples of those:

Instructions for Metro Yard Crew

Orientation

The Long Beach Subdivision is basically a circle of track that is “Main Track 1”. (The concrete tie track closest to the aisle.) and a Branch Line beginning at Long Beach Junction heading South that is “Main Track 2”. (The concrete tie track closest to the backdrop.) South is always to your Right and North is always to your Left as you face the railroad. There are three main Control Points on the railroad: CP Long Beach Junction MP 16.8, CP Gaspur MP 17.7, CP Pier “B” MP 18.0. The main hub of operations is Metro Yard at the end of the Branch Line. (In the closet.)

Morning Shift

1.) Report to CP Gaspur and get aboard the power on Main Track 1 attached to a Stack Train on the Alameda Corridor. Proceed South on Main 1 to CP Long Beach Jct. and x-over to Main 2. Continue to CP Pier “B” on Main 2. Take the Siding and proceed South to Metro Yard Main switch 20.04.

2.) Remove power at Metro Yard Main switch 20.04 and proceed back North on Main 2 to CP Pier “B” MP 18.01.

3.) Shove the Stack Train in two cuts into Pier “F” Long Beach Container Terminal.

4.) Move your light power to any track inside Metro Yard and tie down there. Line up all Switches from MP 18.01 to 20.04 for the Siding Track and await the arrival of the morning Manifest Freight off the Alameda Corridor.

5.) Once the other crew is out of the way, take your light power and proceed North to CP Pier “B” MP 18.01. Couple to the Manifest Freight train on the Siding and proceed North, clear of the MP 19.22 Cross-over.

6.) Refer to your Switch List for the first cut of cars needed for the other crew. You will deliver these shortly.

7.) Keeping similar cars together, use the MP 19.22 Cross-over and begin sorting the cars in this Manifest Train on to the Metro Yard tracks 1 – 3. (The track closest to the Main is Yard Track 1, and so on.)

8.) Once sorted, collect the first cut of cars needed for the other crew and assemble them on Main 2.

9.) Once assembled, proceed North with this cut of cars to CP Long Beach Junction MP 16.83 on Main 2.

10.) Tie down your power and allow the other crew to swap cars with you using the CP Gaspur cross-over.

11.) Once the swap is completed, using Main 2, shove the new cut of cars back to Metro Yard & sort on tracks 1-3.

Afternoon Shift

12.) Refer to your Switch List for the second cut of cars listed as Set-Outs to local industries South of CP Pier B.

13.) Retrieve these cars from Metro Yard track 4 and begin delivering them. (See instruction #16 below first.)

14.) Refer to your Switch List for the third cut of cars listed as Pick-Ups from local industries South of CP Pier B.

15.) Pull these cars from the corresponding industries and deliver them to Metro Yard track 4.

16.) Refer to your Switch List for the fourth cut of cars needed for the other crew. You will deliver these shortly.

17.) Collect the fourth cut of cars needed for the other crew and assemble them on Main 2.

18.) Once assembled, proceed North with this cut of cars to CP Long Beach Junction MP 16.83 on Main 2.

19.) Tie down your power and allow the other crew to swap cars with you using the CP Gaspur cross-over.

20.) Once the swap is completed, using Main 2, shove the new cut of cars back to Main 2 South of CP Pier B.

21.) Connect this cut of cars to all cars remaining in Metro Yard tracks 1-3 into a complete train on Main 2.

End

22.) Remove your power from this evening Manifest Freight, on Main 2 South of CP Pier B, and use the Siding to access Pier “F” and the Long Beach Container Terminal. (LBCT). Assemble all cars in the LBCT into a complete train on the Siding South of CP Pier B. Once the other crew has picked up the evening Manifest Freight, Proceed North on Main 2 to CP Long Beach Jct. and cross-over to Main 1 at MP 16.83.

23.) Proceed North on Main 1 to to CP Gaspur and take the Alameda Track Main 1 at MP 17.72. Continue North until the front of your train is near the end of track. Then, tie down your train, session is comp




Instructions for CP Gaspur Crew

Orientation

The Long Beach Subdivision is basically a circle of track that is “Main Track 1”. (The concrete tie track closest to the aisle.) and a Branch Line beginning at Long Beach Junction heading South that is “Main Track 2”. (The concrete tie track closest to the backdrop.) South is always to your Right and North is always to your Left as you face the railroad. There are three main Control Points on the railroad: CP Long Beach Junction MP 16.8, CP Gaspur MP 17.7, CP Pier “B” MP 18.0. The main hub of operations is Metro Yard at the end of the Branch Line. Morning Shift

1.) Report to CP Gaspur and board the Union Pacific power on Main 2. Wait for the Stack Train on Main 1 to depart.

2.) Once CP Gaspur is clear, get the Union Pacific power coupled to the south end of the Manifest freight parked on the Siding between CP Gaspur and CP Long Beach.

3.) Once coupled, proceed South on Main 1 to Long Beach Jct. MP16.83 and cross-over to Main 2 and on to CP Pier “B” MP 18.01 on Main 2.

4.) When arriving at CP Pier “B” MP 18.01, take the Siding and proceed South to Metro Yard Main switch 20.04.

5.) Remove power at Metro Yard Main switch 20.04 and proceed back North on Main 2 to CP Long Beach MP 16.83.

6.) Wait at CP Long Beach MP 16.83 until the other crew has cleared CP Gaspur with switching moves.

7.) Begin servicing local industries by performing the Morning Shift pick-ups. (See Manifest)

8.) When finished, have the entire consist on the Gaspur Lead Track on Main 1 with your power on the South end.

9.) When the other crew arrives on Main 2 North of CP Gaspur, Exchange cars with them using CP Gaspur X-Over.

10.) Once the other crew is out of the way, set-out this new cut of cars to their respective Morning Shift industries.

Afternoon Shift

11.) Using Main Track 1, service industries at Piers “B” and “D” by picking up Afternoon Shift cars. (See Manifest, Start with Pier “B”.)

12.) Tie down all pick-ups on the siding between CP Gaspur and CP Long Beach.

13.) When finished, have the entire consist on the Gaspur Lead Track on Main 1 with your power on the South end.

14.) When the other crew arrives on Main 2 North of CP Gaspur, Exchange cars with them using CP Gaspur X-Over.

15.) Once the other crew is out of the way, deliver this new cut of Afternoon Shift cars to their respective industries.

16.) When finished, park your power on Main 2 North of CP Gaspur.

17.) Once the other crew has assembled the evening Manifest Train on Main 2. Proceed to CP Pier B on Main 2.

18.) Couple to the North end of the Manifest Train on CP Pier B Main 2.

19.) Proceed North on Main 2 to CP Long Beach Jct. and cross-over to Main 1 at MP 16.83.

20.) Proceed North on Main 1 to to CP Gaspur and take the Siding at MP 17.72. Continue North until the rear of your train is clear of CP Gaspur Main switch MP 17.72. Then, tie down your train, session is completed.
